Morrinsville Wheelers is currently fund-raising to
build a velodrome in the town. The track is to be situated at Wisely Park (off
Rushton Road). It will be 333.3 meters long with 23 degree banking on the turns.
All plans and construction details have been organised and we also have local
Council approval (thanks to the work of club captain Mark May).
Given the club's strong record in track cycling,
having a local track that can be used regularly will greatly assist our riders
to better their performances. It can also be used as a safe off-road location to
introduce junior riders to the sport. Sarah Ulmer has endorsed the proposed
velodrome and its purpose of encouraging a more active community. Having a
facility that can host track carnivals, regional championships and even national
championships will bring visitors (both competitors and spectators) to the area.
Presently we are about one quarter of the way to
achieving the necessary fundraising for this exciting project to go ahead. We
are actively seeking funding options, including sponsorship from the corporate
community. If you have any ideas to assist the club in obtaining funds, please
