February is Bike Wise Month. This link is from the Campbell Live show on TV3. It illustrates the point that road safety for cyclists comes down to safe cycling and safe driving - sharing the road with care. I strongly urge all cyclists to have a look at this!

They have some fantastic hints... others are on the video clip.

  • All road users must obey the road rules!
  • Re-cap your education by looking at the road-code again (already posted on this club's website!)
  • For cyclists to be respected they must ride according to the road rules.
  • Drivers allow a little bit of extra space around blind spots & blind corners - you may have to stop, allow yourself time to do that.
  • Cyclists should remember the 3C's = Courtesy, Common Sense & Communicate with other ride users (Clear hand signals and eye contact).

Cycling Advocates Network are suggesting the Stop on Red Campaign (for those of us who live in such places with traffic lights).
