11/04/2008: "Kaimai Cycles Twilight Race 5"

This has to have been the largest twilight race EVER! With 74 riders participating. Race results are delayed because there was a lot of work for Bev to do to get all riders in the right places (there were two judges which agreed with final places) and then all the time-keeping to do! It is fantastic to see so many new riders giving cycling a go with the club. We hope you are enjoying your riding. It is also a reminder to more experienced riders to check who is new to your group and give them a hand so they can learn how to bunch ride (where possible).

HELPERS
Thank you to Bev May for all your officiating, Mr Wolfe for turning riders at Kereone, Mr Sedick for turning the U13 riders, Mr Kingsford for Judging, Kevin Mayall for helping with traffic control. If others were helpful and arent mentioned here THANK YOU!

SPONSOR
Thank you also to Kaimai cycles for your continued sponsorship of this event.

As a result of such large numbers turning up (FANTASTIC) the committee have decided to put out another newsletter (which will be available next Tuesday night at the Hill Climb & Twilight Race back to town). Please collect your copy. Included in the newsletter is the Club registration form for the 2009 season, updated program and other things of importance.

U13 Race

U13 raced out & back along Kiwitahi-Railway Road 12km. Thank you to Mr Sedick for being the turn marshall for this grade.

U15/U17 & Open 25km

Everyone else raced from Bolten Road to Kereone, left onto Pakerau Road, Left onto the main road, left onto Settlement Road, right at Kereone, then back home to Kiwitahi-Railway Road. With record numbers some bunches were considerably bigger than previously.

The pace was on with a tail-wind out along Kiwitahi-Railway Road. The scratch bunch had the break bunch (1minute 30 ahead) in sight for some of the ride, but it was team work that led to the break bunch pulling off the win for the evening and only escaping fastest time by 6 seconds! The bunch sprint was won by Adrian McCabe ahead of Gary Jackson and Grange Leamann. The bunch was huge with the first 35 in the main sprint - This put judges Bev May and Mr Kingsford to the test. To which we can say they did a pretty good job getting most people in the right places.
