04/02/2008: "Kaimai Cycles Twilight Series - Final Points Tally"
After 22 races throughout this season we finally can announce the winners & place getters of the Kaimai Cycles Twilight Series. Thank you again to Kaimai Cycles for your generous sponsorship of this series, riders appreciate your support (vouchers) and encouragement throughout the season.
U13
The U13 Grade was dominated by Theo Wright early on in the season but gradually as more and more riders came along we had 13 riders trying to catch up. Joshua Collins proved a tough competitor winning some fastest times, which made Theo (8 yrs old) work even harder. Fuad & Achmid Sedick have also proven to be great competitors placing very well since they started in week 9. It is great to see so many riders in this young age group coming through. Keep up the great work.

U15
Six riders contended for the U15 title this year. Charlie Murrell has ridden consistently and forced his way into fastest spot on a number of races. His ability to sit in with the adult bunches as they passed have helped him improve throughout the season. Liam Aberhart has made the transition from U13 to U15 quite well, and is starting to improve his times as he gets used to the longer distances. Competition from Tauranga by means of Georgina Read and Megan Burrows has also helped, these girls are proving to be great competitors, let's hope we see them more in the winter season.

U17
Louis Wright dominated this grade purely because he has fantastic leg speed and ability to stay with the scratch bunches. However, sometimes it was difficult on the downhill sections of races. Gemma Murrell rode nearly every event and secured good placings each week. She has stepped up to the mark recently and is recording faster times which is impressive. New comers to cycling are Gavin Wolfe, Scott Jackson, Joe O'Connor, Patrick Burrows, Samual Marnethrust and Zac Smith - these guys were pushing Gemma along and gave each other fierce competition. A bit more training and they too will be up there with Louis!

Open
Sandra Ginever has taken out the coveted crown of Morrinsville Cycling - the Kaimai Cycles Twlight Series Trophy. From beginnings in middle to front groups Sandra's improved efforts have led to to start in the break bunch. Consistent efforts and only missing one race when she was at the track nationals ensured consistent points adding to her tally. It helps that she has a reasonable sprint at the finish, however as bunches got quicker she had to work much harder to maintain her position. She is the first woman to win this series!! one for the girls!!
Rex Thorley again is in 2nd place (always the bridesmaid having positioned himself 2nd for about 3 seasons of this competition). Ben Olesen worked his scratch group really hard and secured third with his powerful sprinting ability with Evan Smith in tow. Paul Doelman rode consistently and attended every event (as did Rex Thorley) and gained points all the time to maintain his 4th position.
It has been a fantastic competition with 75 riders having a go. Many new riders are enjoying the club atmosphere. Kaye & Roger Wolfe started at the very front bunches and progressively have moved back along with Aimee Sheldon (first year Junior) and Terry Semmens. The main improvers are those who have turned up regularly to compete. Wayne Aberhart is well on the way to achieve his personal goals, he has taken 15 minutes off his personal best for Hangawera circuit. Some riders unfortunately after crashes dipped out of the points race, but we are glad to say are on the way to recovery.
