04/02/2008: "Kaimai Cycles Twilight Series - Finale - Race 22"

North westerly winds prevailed as all 51 of our club riders participated in one circuit of the 16km Bolten Road circuit.

The three man scratch bunch caught the break bunch who had a 30 second lead. It was a huge battle as Ben Olesen, Evan Smith & Bevan Mason chased down the group of 10 before them. The bunch of 10 fast became a bunch of 20 as they caught riders in front of them throughout the race and forced their way through to the front. Scratch caught Break with about 60 metres to go, and caught the front bunch including Dave May, Robbie Mazzola, Samual Marnethrust with 20 metres to go. Approximately 25 riders were heading towards the finishline with about 100m to go. Ben Olesen took line honours ahead of Bevan Mason and our Scotish visitor Eileen (who returns home soon to race in a pro cycling team in Europe). Fantastic effort by Bev May with handicapping!

Some great times came out of our junior riders with U13 & U15 riders all doing the 16km race. Liam Aberhart broke the 40 minute mark along with Achmit Sedik for the first time. The fastest U13 rider was Joshua Collins in a time of 37.21 (he put in a huge sprint along with Theo Wright). It is great to see these little ones fighting it out to the finish line.
