03/29/2008: "WBOP Team Time Trial Highlights - Golden Day for Morrinsville"

Morrinsville footed it with the best Waikato Bay of Plenty Teams at the annual Hope Gibbons Team Time Trial Championships. I will put in our club results because Hamilton City Cycling hosted the event, the will probably have full results for you soon.

Weather Conditions: Gusty Easterly Winds.
Course: Gordonton School out & back (with 40km rides having 3 x u-turns on the course).

Hazel Summers Shield - 10km (U13 event):

Morrinsville had three teams - they each stayed together and achieved excellent times. A number of our riders are aged 7 and 8 and were up against riders who are 12. Just imagine in a few years time when our teams are averaging 11-12 and see what they can do then!! They did great to take turns and help each other to the finish line!

Morrinsville 3: Ben Pulman, Julia Williams, Liam Aberhart 25.59 were 6th in the competition.
Morrinsville 2: Christian Smith, Michael Smith, Achmit Sedick 28.21 were 7th in the competition.
Morrinsville 1: Joshua Collins, Fuad Sedick, Theo Wright 23.05 were 4th in the competition.
Fastest time of the day was 16.18 by a much more experienced Te Awamutu Team.

White Shield - 20km (U17 event):

Morrinsville Team: Louis Wright, Gemma Murrell, Charlie Murrell did 32.54 (averaging almost 36km/hr)and were 4th in the competition. Fastest time was by Te Awamutu in 29.16

Bev & Dave May Women's Shield - 40km

Morrinsville were title holders in last years 30km event and it was to be a challenge to add another 10km on that! Morrinsville pulled themselves victory again in a time of 1.05.53 averaging almost 37km/hr. This was an awesome effort!

Morrinsville: Sandra Ginever, Rebecca Kingsford, Courteney Lowe, Mary van Huysen 1.05.53 (1st in competition).

Masters Shield - 40km

Morrinsville had two teams in this event with the following results:
Morrinsville 2: Tony Wright, Lindsay Williams, Stephe Crowther, Paul Doelman 1.05.56 (10th in competition)
Morrinsville 1: Bob Puru, John Cottingham, Evan Smith, Vaughn Madson 56.18 (2nd in competition) behind Tauranga who did 55.13.

Hope Gibbons Shield - 40km (open teams)

Morrinsville had three teams in the Hope Gibbons Shield Challenge with Morrinsville 1 putting in a huge effort to come in first placing in a time of 53.31. Other teams put in awesome efforts and placed as follows:

Morrinsville 1: Eliot Crowther, Ben Olesen, Matthew Luckie, Bevin Mason 53.31 (1st in competition)
Morrinsville 2: Adrian McCabe, Erik Harrewijn, Quentin Ginever, Rob Russell 1.00.58 (5th in competition)
Morrinsville 3: Sam O'Connor, Terry Semmens, Robbie Mazzola, David Mayall 1.04.51 (7th in competition)

Overall the club did REALLY WELL. Congratulations to all participants in these events and thanks for showing great team spirit, wearing your Morrinsville Collours with pride and cheering on your team mates. All steam ahead for the individual time trail champs on the 12th of April... We now know how hard it is in a team, the individual champs will be an equally challenging battle. Thanks to Bev May for being the club manager, and also to parents who helped out with our teams.

Full Results to come.
