03/25/2008: "Kaimai Cycles Twilight Series - Race 21"

54 riders raced at Hangawera Road tonight. North-easterly winds prevailed.

U13 - Team Time Trial Practice - 12km

U13 teams practiced their team time trial riding for the WBOP champs which are coming up fast. I have included separate times for riders, but by the looks of things they mostly stayed together. The course was out & back on Hangawera Road (not an easy course), so well done to all!! Thanks to Claire Williams for riding with the junior riders again. Just remember at the competition times are calculated on the third rider.

1st team: Joshua Colins 31.12 , Theo Wright 31.13, Fuad Sedick 31.21
2nd team: Christian Smith 34.34, Achmid Sedick 34.44, Michael Smith 34.46
3rd team: Julia Williams 43.23, Therese Williams 45.45
For the benefit of the twilight series the first team receives 5 pts, 2nd 4 pts and 3rd = 3 pts

Everyone else did a full circuit of Hangawera Road 21km. A number of personal best times were achieved tonight (fantastic with only one night to go in the series - great to see dramatic improvements in all bunches).

Dave May used his experience to have a win tonight with Rod Wells put in an enormous effort to come second (both riding the circuit in just over 42 & 43 minutes respectively). Bevin Mason took 3rd place and fastest time ahead of Ben Olesen and Scottish visitor Eileen who put in a massive sprint at the end ahead of the 3rd Scratch rider Evan Smith. Quentin Ginever brought home the break bunch who all stayed together tonight and did just enough to hang in with the strong scratch riders.

Congratulations to a number of people who did personal bests tonight. A big shout out to Wayne Aberhart who has take 16 minutes off his Hangawera circuit time in one season - that's fantastic!!
