03/15/2008: "Saturday 15 March - Club Race Quine Road"

A good turn out for the first Saturday race of the season. 28 riders came out for a ride starting at the base of Quine Road. U13 did out & back while others did either one or two laps of the 20km Quine Road circuit.

The junior race of 8km was lacking riders but Julia & Therese Williams had a good ride with mum, Claire out there supporting the girls.

2 circuits – 40km

Dave May started with Wayne Aberhart at the start of the two lap journey. Robbie Mazzola had a great race catching Dave at the top Quine Road after the first round. Robbie took off from Dave when they got around to the hills for the second time.

Break bunch was lapping really well together and caught a number of riders (who were started in ones and twos) from the top of Quine Road to the start of the second lap (all baring Dave & Robbie). Continuing to work the break bunch caught Dave at the bottom end of Quine got three quarters up the Quine road hill on the second lap only to be overtaken by Andrew Weatherley who was powering up the hill and away from the scratch bunch. Break broke up a little towards the top of the hill and stragglers were passed by the remainder of the scratch group.

Powering over the hill Andrew Weatherley dropped the break bunch on the down hill to lead by over 30 seconds. Scratch and break combined to take the top placings. As for Robbie Mazzola, he was caught by break stragglers and put in a great effort to finish just under two minutes down from the race leaders – fantastic effort Robbie.

Charlie Murrell put in a huge effort out there being caught by the break bunch holding them until part way up Quine Road on the second circuit.
