03/04/2008: "Kaimai Cycles Twilight Racing - Race 18"

Wet weather did little to deter 41 riders who met at Mangateparu to race Mangateparu-Loop Road circuit. WELCOME to SCOTISH RIDERS Eileen & Vic who have come over to race with our club as part of a six week tour of New Zealand - they intend to ride the Northland Tour... We hope you enjoy riding with our club.

Julia Williams came out with her new bike and completed three circuits in 40.38, Theo Wright did the same in 55.15 after his chain came off.

The main event was four circuits (25km) on wet roads, but no rain while racing took place. Great to see so many junior riders out there doing the full four laps.


Robin Stafford was thrilled to have his first win of the season ahead of Paul Burrows (first time out), Aimee Sheldon and Annette Harris (second time out with the club). It is great to see new riders giving cycling a go with Morrinsville Wheelers. Eventually Bev gets the handicaps right!! Scratch riders caught the two minute break bunch after two circuits (and drama when Bob lost his race computer and rode with Scratch to catch his bunch again). Ben Olsen led the bunch sprint with Evan Smith and Rob Russell on his wheel.
