VELOSPORT A & B Grade results
As A & B Grade raced together we have put results together as well. The VELOSPORT GC results are separate at the bottom, along with the Ultimo Hill Climber & Sprint Ace points. For simplicity of typing this information in I have not included 'bonus' time subtracted from rider times. 1st was given 5 sec, 2nd 3 sec, 3rd 2 sec and 4th 1 sec in both A & B Grades for Stages 1,3,4. (These bonus times are taken into account in the overall GC times)
Stage One - 50km
Stage one was supposed to be 64km - unfortunately on the Friday before tour the council road workers ripped up a good piece of road outside Mangateparu. This was not a good rideable surface. Riders went from Hangawera Rd, Matuku Rd, left onto Tauhei Rd, right onto Tainui Rd, right onto Quine Rd, left onto Morrinsville-Tahuna rd, left onto Quine Road to finish at the top of Quine Road.
First time up Quine road the bunch literally split in two. After a big chase and not much action from the front bunch it all joined up again, only to drop off a few riders at the top of the finishing climb.

Stage Two - 21km Time Trial
This stage is always interesting with riders endeavouring to go around the rolling Hangawera Road circuit at pace. This year an impressive ride came from Rachel Mercer who was the only one to do under 31 minutes. B Grade Sandra Ginever & Rachel Larner took 4th & 5th places respectively.

Stage Three - 90km
Again roadworks played havoc for race organisers with one complete part of the course being taken out. Riders went out as per normal to complete two circuits of Henry Watson/Morgan Road circuit then returned back to town via Bell Road. A four person breakaway took off after approximately 20km and very little was done to chase them down, all of a sudden the break was up to around five minutes. Rushlee Buchanan, Toni Bradshaw, Karen Fulton and Emma Crum secured themselves as major contenders for the general classifications. Rain also hindered some bunches which came into the second to last corner too quickly and slipped off their bikes. A few riders pulled out as a result of crashes.

Stage Four
Again in wet conditions corners were slippery. One crash on the main straight was unsettling for a number of riders - they did get up and going again, fortunately. A Graders Toni Bradshaw & Marina Duvnjak took themselves to an almost one minute lead on the rest of the field, lapped the B Grade bunch (except for Rosy McCall who was still in the front with the most part of A Graders).
