02/03/2008: "Auckland Track Championships"

Over the weekend Louis Wright (U17) and Sandra Ginever (Snr Women) participated in the Auckland Track Championships at Manukau Velodrome... This event is still not completed with Points races and Kerin Finals to be held on this Wednesday.

Thus far:

Louiswas 3rd in U17 Pursuit - time 2.39.00 over 2000m beating an excellent rider to take bronze. He is 2 seconds off the winning time. In the 500m scratch race Louis was 4th in his heat but unfortunately only three made it to the finals. In the sprints Louis was 5th and again only 4 made it through to the finals. His times are comparable to riders from Auckland, and the different track has taken a little to get used to. In the pursuit Louis is showing his strength and is improving his technique every time.

Sandra also was 3rd in the pursuit with a time of 4.20.55 over 3000m - in her heat she raced against Dorrette Crowther (formerly Morrinsville) who did a time of 4.11.?? Dorrette went on to race for Gold/Silver ride but finished 2nd overall. Conditions were tough for the pursuits. Sandra did not have to ride for bronze as there were three riders. In the kerin heat she was 2nd. This enables her to go through to the final which is on Wednesday. Sandra also did the 8000m scratch race and was going really well. She chased bunches down and was in numerous breakaway attempts, unfortunately the riders were contented to sit in as one bunch which meant Rosy McCall took the lead in the final sprint. Sandra finished around 6th after a great attempt - and really good workout as the event pace was really fast...
